NTA cancelled the NEET UG exam held on 3 May 2026 and conducted a re-exam on 21 June 2026 at 5,440 centres in 551 cities in India and 14 abroad. The result was declared on 16 July 2026. Candidates did not have to register again.

MCC counselling timeline 2026 for MBBS admission in India

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) runs All India Quota counselling at mcc.nic.in. The dates below are compiled from published schedules, and MCC can revise them, so confirm each one on the official site.

Sources differ on the stray round result date, so both values are shown. A fifth round for BDS and BSc Nursing has been reported for 17 to 21 November, but that is not confirmed on MCC.

How each MCC round works

1. NEET UG result and information bulletin

   After the NTA result, MCC publishes its information bulletin with the seat matrix, eligibility rules and the multi-round process. Read it before you register.

2. Online registration and fee payment

   Eligible candidates register on the MCC portal, enter their details, upload documents and pay the non-refundable registration fee plus the refundable security deposit.

3. Choice filling and choice locking

   Candidates choose from government medical colleges, deemed universities and central institutions. Check your sequence carefully before you lock. Choices cannot be changed after locking.

4. Provisional and final seat allotment result

   MCC combines rank lists, categories and choices to allot MBBS, BDS and BSc Nursing seats. A provisional list is shown first so errors can be reported before the final result.

5. Physical reporting at the allotted college

   Candidates with a valid allotment report to the college in person. Original documents are verified, admission fees are paid, and an upgrade is possible only in the rounds that allow it.

Fees are as reported from the MCC 2026 information bulletin. A candidate who wants both government and deemed seats pays only the higher deemed-university amount. Verify on mcc.nic.in before paying.

MBBS seats in India 2026-27: government, private and state-wise

The NMC 2026-27 matrix lists about 1,36,939 MBBS seats in 823 medical colleges, up about 7.8% from the previous year. It excludes AIIMS, JIPMER and PGIMER, which are Institutes of National Importance. A revised matrix reported on 23 September 2026 puts the total near 1.41 lakh, so the final number may be higher.

State figures are from the July 2026 NMC matrix as reported by PW. Other websites show different state totals, so treat these as indicative and confirm with NMC and your state counselling authority. Seat numbers change as colleges get approvals.

MBBS admission 2026: eligibility, application and documents

MBBS admission 2026 relies on the score in NEET, the national entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The rules below follow the usual NMC and NTA criteria, so read the current bulletin for exact wording.

• Age: at least 17 years on or before 31 December of the year of admission.
• Qualification: Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology, and English.
• Marks in PCB: 50% for General, 45% for PwBD and 40% for SC, ST and OBC, as set by NMC.
• Entrance: qualify NEET UG at the category cut-off. Indian students who plan to study MBBS abroad must qualify NEET UG too.

Steps to get MBBS admission in India

1. Qualify NEET UG

   Appear for NEET UG and score at or above the cut-off for your category.

2. Register for counselling

   Register on mcc.nic.in for All India Quota and central, ESIC and deemed seats. Register separately with your state authority for state quota and private seats.

3. Fill and lock choices

   List colleges in your order of preference. Use previous-year closing ranks as a guide, not a promise.

4. Accept the seat and report

   Check the allotment, pay the fee and report to the college with originals before the deadline.

Documents to keep ready

• Allotment letter
• NEET UG 2026 admit card and result or rank letter
• Class 10 and Class 12 certificates and mark sheets (a date-of-birth certificate if Class 10 does not show it)
• Passport-size photographs (keep about 8)
• Identity proof such as Aadhaar, PAN, driving licence or passport
• Category or other eligibility certificates, if you claim a reservation

Government and private medical colleges: how seats are filled

Pick a college by checking three things together: your rank, the quota you can use and the total cost. Each seat type has its own route.

Before you accept a college

• Check that the college and its MBBS intake appear in the NMC list of recognised colleges on nmc.org.in.
• Ask for the fee notification in writing, covering tuition, hostel, mess, caution deposit and bond or service terms.
• Compare clinical exposure: hospital beds, patient load and faculty strength.
• Never pay anyone who offers an MBBS seat outside official counselling or without NEET UG.

MBBS fee structure 2026-27 in India

MBBS fees depend on the type of college and the quota. Government colleges charge far less than private colleges and deemed universities. There is no single national figure, because each state notifies fees for its own colleges and each deemed university sets its own.
