In addition to confirming the exam format, the NTA also announced that NEET UG will serve as the uniform entrance test for admission to various undergraduate medical courses.

NEET UG 2025 for MBBS UG courses admissions in India: The National Testing Agency (NTA) started the application process for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) on February 7. Along with the NEET UG application form, the NTA has also released this year’s NEET UG information bulletin, syllabus and exam pattern at neet.nta.nic.in.

Several changes are also made to the NEET UG 2025 exam. The NEET UG application form number and age which used to be one of the tie-breaking criteria, no longer exists. The NEET UG official website has uploaded the information brochure, syllabus, answers to frequently asked questions and other details on eligibility, application process and exam pattern.

NEET UG 2025: New changes

Applicants desiring to get MBBS admissions in India into a medical college for admission to undergraduate medical courses MBBS admissions in India will have to go through the changes introduced this year before filling the application form.

NEET UG pattern

NTA has discontinued the optional questions in Section B of NEET UG MBBS 2025. Candidates taking the NEET UG in 2025 will not get any optional questions and extra time introduced during Covid and exam will now revert to the pre-COVID format. The optional section was introduced as a temporary measure to accommodate the challenges posed during Covid pandemic and has been in practice till 2024. NEET UG 2025 for MBBS admissions in India paper will now have 180 compulsory questions — 45 questions each in physics and chemistry and 90 in biology. The NEET UG 2025 exam for MBBS admissions in India will be held in a single shift in pen and paper mode.

NEET UG tie-breaking criteria

As a first, NTA will resolve ties through a random process with the guidance of an independent expert committee if all the provisions are exhausted. The tie-breaking criteria will not include the NEET UG application number and age this time. According to the NTA NEET UG 2025 MBBS admissions in India information brochure, in case of two or more candidates obtain equal marks or percentile scores in the NEET UG 2025 MBBS admissions in India, the inter-se-merit will be determined as follows:
a. Candidate obtaining higher marks or percentile score in biology (botany and zoology) in the test, followed by,
b. Candidate obtaining higher marks or percentile score in chemistry in the test, followed by,
c. Candidate obtaining higher marks or percentile score in physics in the test, followed by,
d. Candidate with less proportion of the number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in all the subjects in the test,
e. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in biology (botany and zoology) in the test, followed by
f. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in chemistry in the test, followed by
g. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in physics in the test, followed by
h. In case, a-g criteria are exhausted and tie still persists, it will be resolved through a random process with the guidance of an independent expert committee.

NTA NEET UG exam centre

While filling up the NEET UG 2025 for MBBS admissions in India online application form, candidates will have to select three cities as their choice of cities for the exam centre in order of their priority. Choice of centre cities will be limited to the state of permanent address or state of present address only. For convenience, the candidates may select their own city or neighbouring cities in their state of residence only and not for far away cities in other states.

Exam timing and reporting time

The NEET UG 2025 MBBS admissions in India exam centre will be opened three hours before the start of the test. No candidate shall be allowed to enter the exam centre after 1.30 pm. Exams will be conducted from 2 pm to 5 pm.

Photo upload rule

During the NEET UG 2025 application for MBBS NEET UG admissions in India, candidates will have to upload scanned images of their recent passport size photograph taken after January 1, 2025. In addition to the scanned images of the passport sized photo, the signature, left and right hand fingers and thumb impression, citizenship certificate (if applicable), social category certificate/ applied for application, Class 10 marksheet and Class 10 passing certificate or equivalency certificate(s) for conversion of CGPA or grades, in percentage as also duly indicating date of birth and PwBD and PwD certificate will also have to be uploaded.

The NEET UG 2025 for MBBS admissions NEET UG courses in India scores and merit list will also apply for admissions to BDS and BVSC and AH courses in addition to admission to UG courses in each of the disciplines – BAMS, BUMS and BSMS courses of the Indian System of Medicine in all medical institutions. Admission to the BHMS course under the National Commission for Homeopathy will also be done on the basis of NEET UG scores MBBS admissions in India.

MNS (Military Nursing Service) aspirants seeking admission to BSc Nursing courses being conducted at Armed Forces Medical Service Hospitals for the year 2025 are required to qualify for NEET UG. The NEET UG score will be used for shortlisting for selection to the four-year BSc Nursing course.

NEET 2025 – Introduction

NEET 2025 exam will be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) tentatively in the first week of May 2025 i.e 4th may 2025. NEET 2025 is the biggest entrance exam for undergraduate medical courses. NEET 2025 will act as the gateway to admission to undergraduate medical, dental, nursing and other allied medical courses across India.

NEET 2025 Overview

→ Given the past year’s trends, it is expected that the NEET 2025 exam will be conducted on Sunday, May 4, 2025, from 2 PM to 5.20 PM in over 550 cities across India and abroad. The NEET 2025 exam date will be announced tentatively by the end of September 2024. And mode of paper will be offline i.e pen and paper mode.

NEET 2025 Eligibility Criteria

→ The NEET 2025 eligibility criteria is expected to remain the same as last year. The NEET eligibility criteria changed last year in terms of subjects studied in Class 11 and Class 12, and schooling. Take a look at the NEET eligibility criteria 2025 below.

  • Candidates should have passed or scheduled to appear for the Class 12 Board exam or equivalent with Chemistry, Physics, Biology/Biotechnology and English subjects
  • Candidates belonging to the General category should have secured a minimum of 50 per cent aggregate and reserved category candidates should secure 45 per cent (General-PWD) and 40 per cent (SC, ST, OBC, Reserved PWD)
  • Candidates must have attained the age of 17 years at the time of admission or will attain the same by December 31, 2025. Accordingly, the minimum date of birth of candidates should be December 31, 2008. There is no upper age limit.
  • Indian nationals/ Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs) who wish to pursue MBBS/BDS from a foreign university also have to qualify for NEET 2025.

In terms of the changes introduced last year, candidates who have studied or are studying Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology and English as additional subjects are also considered eligible to appear for the exam. Moreover, candidates who have completed their schooling from Open Schools will also be eligible.

  • Visit the official website of NEET 2025 – neet.ntaonline.in or exams.nta.ac.in/NEET
  • Click on the NEET 2025 Registration tab under the Latest News section
  • Read the instructions carefully and click on the agreement checkbox
  • Enter the mandatory details such as personal and contact details, and generate a password
  • Verify the details by entering the OTP received on your mobile number and email address
  • The registration credentials such as application number and password will be sent to candidates through email
  • Login with the NEET 2025 registration credentials to complete the application form
  • Fill in the mandatory details in each section such as personal, educational, medium of question paper, exam city preference, documents upload (photograph, signature, finger and thumb impressions, category certificate, etc.) and other information
  • Pay the application fee in online mode with Credit/Debit Card, Net Banking and UPI.

NEET 2025 Admit Card

→ neet 2025 admit card is the mandatory document to be carried to the exam center. NTA will release the NEET 2025 admit card in online mode only for the registered candidates, tentatively in the first week of May 2025, a couple of days before the exam date. Test takers will have to download it by logging into the exam website
